More WordPress migraines - an exit strategy forms
It seems that WordPress is finally moving down the path of full ai integration via MCP. This means that anyone can build and manage a WP site through voice commands. I imagine that it may be convenient If you're running a monetised business blog. It might even be exciting news. But for personal bloggers and anyone trying to surf the choppy seas of what forms the modern web, I'm not sure it's an ideal scenario.
There are likely good business reasons the platform is heading in this direction. WordPress powers a vast number of sites on the web, with many of them being related to business and money-making. Gone are the days, it seems, of WordPress being aimed at regular bloggers who just want to post a poem or two. This is what happens when software moves from enabling personal expression to serious Content Management for businesses, corporations, marketers, and profiteers. I still have a substantial photography blog there, and if my interactions are any indication of what passes for engagement on the platform in 2026, there's lots of lazy ai slop, subscription farms disguised as gentle self-help, and businesses trying to get attention in a thinning market.
This all brings me to my central point: I need to get my stuff off WordPress and find a new home for it. Whether that's here at Bear Blog or Pika or somewhere else, I don't know yet. But I have just installed a Markdown export plugin and will look at backing up all of my WordPress posts to easy to read Markdown files, ready to import elsewhere.
