Breaking the toxic hold of social media
When I was in the migration phase of copying and pasting all my posts from Wordpress to Pika, I reached out to the people that had subscribed to my old blog via one last post. As usual on such dopamine-hit driven platforms, only a handful replied. So many are only interested in follows for follows and what you can do for them.
Anyway, one of the few genuine people contacted me and said he'd also been thinking of moving from Wordpress, primarily to break the toxicity of social media. He now writes about it and posts art on his Pika blog. We've been chatting by email without the pressure of the algorithmic feed.
The power of the small web is that it interrupts the dopamine hijack that big social media depends on for profits. Like me, Adam has discovered that the stranglehold can be weakened and broken.
